“Come on, Honey Child”, April 2025
Original three run color woodcut print on archival paper (RFK Rives Lightweight - cream)
Paper size: 17” x 23” | Print size: 15” x 20”
This collection represents the best of the “wild” prints: those ones that happened while I was experimenting and layering colors, trying to find my way through the maze of inks and shades. Woodcuts are created through carving a piece of flat wood (often a sheet of free, found plywood in my case) with knives and gouges to create images. The blocks are then rolled up with ink, carefully registered on paper, and run through a press to transfer the ink onto paper. Though they look similar, each print is one of a kind with its own blend of colors and different layers of blocks. You may see “chatter” – the areas where the block was carved away but still takes ink – evidence of its creation. Sometimes registered slightly off-center, the layers create an almost psychedelic effect. Funky, dancing, dizzying, calming, let them brighten your life.
Their names come from the songs I was listening to at the time - low-singing Jerry and groovy Mick - a bit of Shania, loads of Mt Joy live. I think they all have their own personality. Find the one you love and can’t keep your eyes off of.
Sits perfectly in an 18 × 24” frame with a 1 inch mat border, or within a 15 × 20” flush mat.
